Most of the serial based devices can be easily integrated with the Ethernet protocols.
In multifunction instruments, not only the cables connected to the measurement, but also the rs485 cable ([site](https://www.cap-rs485-imatek-chinh-hang.xyz/2020/10/cac-ieu-ban-chua-biet-ve-chuan-rs485.html "site")) serial port and the analog and digital inputs and outputs must be wired.
If there is a large potential difference between neutral and earth, this could negatively affect the measurement, in the case of instruments with non-galvanically isolated measurement inputs.
